At the age of 92, and still operating the shop, Henry Rault was hit by a Model T Ford crossing Magazine Street on his way to the picture show. The business was passed on to the next generation of Raults. In 1992, Russel Staub, the fourth generation of Henry Rault's descendants, sold the shop, building, and inventory to Jim Miller. The shop had suffered in recent years, not least from Staub's hobbies as a blood-sport enthusiast. The back yard held pens for bit-bulls, and the second floor had been converted to a coop for fighting cocks.
Today, a new generation of Millers are carrying on the tradition. After an extensive Post-Katrina remodeling, H. Rault is open and ready to serve New Orleans as it has for over 160 years.
